August 2000 - May 2001— University of Missouri, Instructor, Child Development.Duties: Responsible for all teaching duties required of an undergraduate child development course; designed course structure and requirements, prepared and presented lectures, constructed, administered, and graded all examinations, papers, and projects, interfaced with students regarding academic progress and course-related concerns, and received weekly teaching supervision.

August 2000 - May 2001 — Maple Woods Community College, Instructor, General Psychology. Duties: Responsible for teaching two classes per semester of General Psychology; performed all teaching duties, designed course structure, developed and presented lectures, constructed, graded, and provided verbal and written feedback on all examinations, papers, and projects, maintained and reported course grades, assisted students with academic and course-related concerns.

August 1996 - June 1998 — San Diego State UniversityTeaching Assistant, Community Psychology. Duties: Responsible for all teaching duties associated with three sections of undergraduate community psychology course, developed and delivered lectures, developed and graded all examinations and papers, assisted students with academic concerns, attended weekly teaching supervision meetings.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE August 2004 - August 2006: Principal Investigator, The Ohio State University-Mansfield. Duties: Responsible for all duties associated with conceptualizing, conducting, and analyzing research exploring associations between spiritual coping, readiness for change, and health-related behaviors. Currently actively analyzing data from initial data collection, collecting second wave of data, and preparing manuscripts for submission. My lab creates opportunities for undergraduate research assistants, and I currently support four students in this capacity.

June 2001 - July 2002 Graduate Research Assistant, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Designed and secured funding for study by co-authoring an NIAAA-funded study examining spirituality as a potential protective factor against problem drinking and participation in sexual risk behavior by African American youth; supervised undergraduate research team, organized and conducted data collections, analyzed and interpreted data, conducted weekly research lab meetings.

August 1998 - July 2002 HIV/AIDS Research Center, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Served as a member of an HIV/AIDS research team; assisted with the design, implementation, analysis, and reporting of both qualitative and quantitative research studies exploring various issues pertaining to HIV/AIDS and combination therapies; participated in weekly research lab meetings, prepared posters and presented research at national conferences.

August 2000 - August 2001 Research Assistant, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Served as a member of a research team investigating the relationship between client and counselor variables, and satisfaction with therapy; conducted data collection, met with research team to discuss methodological and procedural issues, entered and analyzed data.

August 1998 - October 1999 Predissertation Research, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Developed and evaluated the psychometric properties of a measure of alcohol-specific God locus of control beliefs for members of Alcoholics Anonymous; analyzed data; prepared and submitted manuscript for publication, presented research at national conference.

June 1997 - May 1998 Master’s Thesis, San Diego State University.Duties: Investigated the role of alcohol-related internal and God control belief to recovery in members of Alcoholics Anonymous, recruited participants, collected and analyzed data, prepared and submitted manuscript for publication, presented research at national conference.

August 1996 - April 1998 Research Assistant, San Diego State University. Duties: Assisted with research examining gender and ethnic differences in children’s concepts of illness, supervised undergraduate research team, organized and conducted data collections, entered and analyzed data, presented research at national conference.

COUNSELING PRACTICA

August 2002 - August 2003 Predoctoral Internship, University of California at Santa Cruz, Counseling and Psychological Services. Duties: Provide individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach, and consultation to college students and staff. Duties also include weekly rotation in Stress Reduction Clinic educating patients in behavioral methods including biofeedback, progressive muscle relaxation, autogenics, guided imagery, and meditation.

August 2001 - January 2002 Group Counseling Practicum, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Co-facilitated two adult interpersonal process groups at an inpatient psychiatric hospital; received weekly supervision pertaining to group therapy issues.

August 2001 - January 2002 Group Counseling Supervision Practicum, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Conducted weekly supervision with beginning group therapy counselors, maintained a weekly log of supervision interactions and experiences; received weekly supervision-of-supervision.

June 2001 - August 2001 — Supervision Practicum, Community Counseling Services, University of Missouri-Kansas City. Duties: Conducted weekly individual clinical supervision with beginning counselors; maintained a weekly log of supervision interactions and experiences; received weekly supervision-of-supervision.

August 2000 - February 2001 — Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Duties: Conducted individual and group therapy with adults presenting with issues including mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and substance abuse; designed and implemented treatment plans to meet the unique needs of the patients; facilitated an inpatient therapy group for patients with substance abuse issues, received weekly supervision.

January 1999 - August 2000 — Counselor-In-Training, University of Missouri-Kansas City Community Counseling Services. Duties: Conducted intake interviews with both adult clients and college students from the Kansas City metropolitan area; engaged in short and long-term individual therapy with adult and student clients presenting with issues such as mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, interpersonal problems, and general phase of life concerns; developed and implemented treatment plans to meet the unique needs of clients; facilitated transfer and termination sessions when appropriate.

COUNSELING RELATED EXPERIENCE

August 1998 - August 2000 Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Missouri-Kansas City Community Counseling Services. Duties: One of four graduate students appointed to operate an in-house training clinic for master’s and doctoral level counselors; served as contact and consultant for counselors-in-training regarding various client issues; developed and facilitated weekly training concerning professional development issues for agency counselors; participated in weekly case staffing; performed case monitoring, conducted and scheduled client intakes; provided emergency contacts and crisis intervention, served as court liaison, and responsible for all financial deposits

PROGRAM EVALUATION EXPERIENCE

August 2000 - July 2002 Program Evaluation, Offering New Youth Experiences (ONYX), funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAHMSA) Completed biannual evaluation of a combined substance abuse and HIV education program for at-risk African American adolescents. Based upon data collected, assessments are made regarding the efficacy of interventions which target change in knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes regarding high-risk behavior. Surveyed participants, entered and analyzed data; presented summaries to both students and educators.

OUTREACH AND CONSULTATION EXPERIENCE

November, 2005- present — Research Consultant, Mental Health Court and the Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. Design program evaluation for Richland County Jail Diversion Program. Provide advice to participating agencies on research methodology and study protocols that will enable meaningful evaluation of programs and interventions.

May, 2005- Invited Speaker, The Ohio State University Women’s Organization. Conducted psychoeducational seminar on “Self-Esteem in Women” covering the etiology of low self-esteem and cognitive-behavioral strategies targeted at enhancing self-esteem

November, 2004- June, 2005 Member, Richland County Grants Writing Committee. Member of community group that identified sources of external funding for schools, at-risk youth, etc., and collaboratively wrote grants to secure funding.

August, 2002- August, 2003 Member, Alcohol and Other Drug Advisory Board, University of California, Santa Cruz. Attended weekly meetings of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) advisory board which included law enforcement, residential staff, and AOD staff. Primary objectives involved determination of AOD-related interventions, policy, and prevention efforts.

August, 2002- August, 2003 Eating Disorders Outreach, University of California, Santa Cruz . Delivered outreach on eating disorders to students and staff on the UCSC campus. Primary responsibilities included recreational facilities and residential staff trainings, and serving as a liaison for the Health and Wellness Center.

August, 2002- August, 2003 Test Anxiety Outreach, University of California, Santa Cruz. Provided quarterly workshops to students and student organizations on test anxiety and stress management. Workshops combined psychoeducational and experiential components.

February, 2003 Facilitator, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, University of California, Santa Cruz, Fire Department. Facilitated critical incident stress debriefing for firefighters following a traumatic event. Intervention was based upon critical incident theory and incorporated both didactic and process components.

LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE

September 2006- Present: Member, Staff Development Committee, Southwestern College, Interim Chair. Duties: Meet with other committee members to discuss issues and programming events related to the professional development of faculty and staff.

August 2009- Present Content Area Consultant for Basic Skills Project, Southwestern College. Duties: Read Basic Skills Project assigned book and provide subject-matter expertise to identify psychology-specific concepts within the book, generate psychology-specific and culturally significant questions based on the reading.

September 2008- Present Member, Online Learning Committee, Southwestern College. Duties: Advisory committee to college Vice President; meet with other committee members to discuss issues related to online instruction and forward recommendations to college Vice President.

September 2008- Present Faculty Union Representative, Department of Psychology, Southwestern College. Duties: Attend union meetings, solicit feedback when necessary from constituents about issues to be voted on, and update departmental faculty on relevant issues.

December 2004 - August 2006 Member, Faculty Diversity Committee, The Ohio State University Mansfield. Duties: Meet with other committee members to discuss ways to increase diversity awareness and implement multicultural content across school curriculum.
